The Seminole Bromeliad & Tropical Plant Society is an affiliate of the Bromeliad Society International and of the Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies. It is a circle of the Sanford Garden Club and thus affiliated with the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs.

SBTPS is a membership based fellowship of Bromeliad & Tropical Plant enthusiasts that promote and develop public awareness of the diverse plant family Bromeliaceae (Bromeliads). We share and exchange information concerning the culture, identification and hybridization of bromeliads. In acknowledging our members parallel gardening interests and affiliations we also promote many other Tropical Plant families that can be grown in our transitional temperature zone.

Last Meeting

10/26 Thank You to all the members who volunteered their time for our annual Clean-up Day of the Sanford Garden Club. And a special thanks to the members who donated refreshments.

Next Meeting

11/16

There has been a change in our Program Schedule and we will meet at the Garden Club this month at the usual time (2pm).

 OUR PROGRAM:

Part I:  Please bring plants to sell or trade.  There is scarcely anything we enjoy more than buying, swapping and selling plants!  Please label your plants if you know their names, and indicate the price or “trade value”.  You keep 100% of your sale price.

Part II:  We (i.e., any members who are willing and able) will also have a “plant clinic”, where plant problems will be discussed and remedies offered; and unidentified plants may be brought for possible identification.  So bring plants you need cures or names for.

Part III:  There will be a brief business meeting:  the slate of officers for 2009 will be presented, and shall be elected if approved by a majority vote of members present (per the existing Bylaws).  The new officers shall assume their duties on January 1, 2009, and will be officially installed at the January meeting.

REFRESHMENTS

We did not plan to have a regular meeting this month so we did not request volunteer(s) to provide refreshments.  Please call Jerry O’Keefe if you can help this month (the November 16th meeting).

And we still need two volunteers for the January 2009 meeting.  Please contact Jerry O’Keefe, our Hospitality Chairman, (407-767-2442) or email (euph2201@cfl.rr.com) if you can help us out.

DECEMBER PROGRAM

The December meeting is our holiday luncheon.  We will need a couple of volunteers to help our Hospitality Chairman organize this event.  The Society will pay for the main entrée (usually a ham or turkey) and paper plates, cups, napkins and utensils.  At least three people will be needed to do the setup work: put on the tablecloths, set up the serving tables, tables and chairs, prepare coffee, etc.

All members who can attend are asked to bring a covered dish, or other item (bread, cranberry sauce, vegetable dishes, beverages, ice, desserts, decorations for the tables, etc).  Please contact Jerry O’Keefe if you can help organize and/or bring a luncheon item.  Also, please bring a wrapped or covered plant to exchange.  Keep in mind: bring a plant of the quality that you would like to receive.  A reminder notice will be sent next month; meanwhile, please think about what you can bring (food and plant) to make the day MORE FESTIVE AND ENJOYABLE.
